Commission: Iron Fists

Today, we look at two different incarnations of the Immortal Iron Fist: Orson Randall and Danny Rand.

I'm currently enjoying the most fun run of commission work that I've ever done. Thanks very much to those fine folks who commissioned me: you're challenging me and encouraging my growth—and paying me for the pleasure! Thanks!

And I'm still accepting preorders for C2E2 in Chicago. I'm not sure if I'll be doing more than penciled headshots at the show, so please consider lining up a commission before the show. If you're an art collector that prefers to have commissions done in your themed sketchbook, you can mail me your sketchbook and I'll be glad to bring it to the show.

PRICING
$40 for an inked single-character piece on 8.5 x 11 (or 9 x 12...depending on what I have lying around). Additional figures, email me for a quote. Plan on $5 for Priority Mail shipping if you won't be picking up the piece at the show.

$80 for an inked single character piece on 11 x 17. Again, for additional figures, email me for a quote. And again, $5 for Priority Mail shipping if you won't be picking up the piece at the show.

(ink wash added at artist's discretion...let me know up front if it's something you really, really, really have your heart set on.)

Commission: Juggernaut and Friend

Today's commission features Marvel super villain The Juggernaut and...the guy who commissioned the piece!

I'm always unsure how to handle both extreme exaggeration (as in the case of Juggernaut) and humor (the situation), but I'm relatively happy with the results.

Here's today's commission, the pulp-inspired, globetrotting 1930s adventurer, Iron Fist!

Commission: Punisher Max

A commission in the spirit of the Punisher Max series...intimidating because I love Tim Bradstreet's moody work...still, the end result looks okay.

A New Marvel Sample

Trying to drum up new work...I messed around with a Marvel sample. I tried to hit as many different kinds of mood as I could on this one: romance, suspense/espionage and action.

It was a lot of fun! Tackling new things is always a learning experience.

Commission: Orson Randall, The Immortal Iron Fist

I really enjoyed the conceit that the Iron Fist was a legacy concept, as demonstrated in the Ed Brubaker/Matt Fraction/David Aja Iron fist run. Of all the past Iron Fists featured, of course I have a soft spot for Orson Randall, who wielded the Iron Fist from 1919 to 1933.

When someone commissions an Orson Randall drawing, I don't think twice.

Commission: Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy

Another quickie commission. This time we have Gamora, who used to be Adam Warlock's girlfriend, I think. There can't be a bunch of green girls running around Marvel's cosmic books, right?

...or can there?

More fun with tones! I'm really enjoying working with the Col-Erase pencils and just ordered a batch of them last Friday.

Commission: Modok and Doctor Bong!

When you're going through the list of Z-List characters on Marvel's slate, Doctor Bong has to be at the top of the list. Or the bottom—whatever's worse.

But Modok just rocks.

For the record, this is the original Doctor Bong; created by Steve Gerber during his Howard the Duck run in the 1970s. He's not to be confused with Olympic Swimmer Michael Phelps, who also goes by the name Doctor Bong.

Sinestro Corps Red Skull

A meeting of the Marvel and DC universes in an ominous way! The person who commissioned this one asked for "the Red Skull as a member of the Sinestro Corps." I added in the cosmic cube because, well, it's badass.
